Personally, I would favor players (myself included) actually having to work to get the most powerful ring variations. The Undead Arena is available at any point in the game, at any New Game level. If I wanted a flat increase to the effectiveness of my rings, I would want to have some downside or 'catch' for it, even if it doesn't influence the main reason I am increasing the effectiveness of my rings in the first place: PvP.ДЄnd it's not like PvP is 'locked out' for you until you get the absolute best everything and you're done progressing. Sure, it'll matter in a life-or-death clutch situation every now and again, but the main effect comes from just wearing the ring at any + variation. The + variations of the rings have a pretty small increase, though. Faith has a bit better progression of utility with heals and buffs, but won't get a good damage spell until around Nameless King or the second half of TRC dlc. Great Heavy Soul Arrow is considered one of the best damage/fp ratios in the game. The only casters that suffer, really, are pure pyromancers as you're required to do both the underground lake and rescue karla before you have access to what are considered your 'best' spells. The heretic staff and starting sorcerer staff are so good for 40 INT casting it's actually almost unfair that you can practically start with them.

You can hit a legit 220+ spell buff with max cast and 40 int before you leave farron swamp, have great soul arrow / spear, and almost every utility spell. You have better options for rings including damage rings, chloranthy, and steel that will serve you better than 18% of 30 seconds extra. As a result, lingering dragoncrest ring is mostly useful for extending 'hidden' while running through PvE content. Lingering dragoncrest ring is not useful for buffs and won't add healing or cleansing to miracles, won't extend the duration of aoe attacks as a result of the initial projectile (chaos orb, lightning stake, etc). You can have max cast speed before you even fight crystal sage. 50 dex is the cap, regular sage ring (+30 effective spellcasting dex) is light and 20 dex is almost under-shooting what you'd expect on a typical melee caster.

This belies a bit of misinformation on your part, so I'd like the opportunity to quickly inform you of some stuff that might make future playthroughs easier:Дў0 dex + regular sage ring = max 'effective' dexterity for spellcasting.
